Pest Management Tips for a Healthy Maine
Create and maintain healthy landscapes through ecologically based practices that minimize reliance on water, fertilizer and pesticides. Gary Fish, from the Maine Board of Pesticides Control, hopes to inspire Maine people to grow & maintain ecologically friendly landscapes. An Entomologist from birth, Gary was inspired to love plants by his Mother who always grew beautiful roses and rock gardens. He is also an aspiring landscape and nature photographer. He is a practicing Licensed Professional Forester since 1985, and 10 year member and former Chairman of Arborist Examining Board, and is currently the Manager, of Pesticide Programs for Board of Pesticides Control since September of 1988. Meet the Honeybee – An Introduction to Beekeeping
Live bees will be on display as Dr. William Dorrity demonstrates the joys of beekeeping and the healthful benefits of making your own honey. From prevention of allergies to increasing the pollination of fruit and flower, there are lots of good reasons to become a beekeeper. With over 40 years of experience to share, Dr. Dorrity will discuss how to get started and provide some fun facts about bees that will surprise and entertain you. Dr. William Dorrity is a lifelong hobby beekeeper. He is a full time instructor at EMCC and lives in Winterport.

Floral Design instructor, Annemarie Rutherford, simplifies the craft of floral arranging using experience garnered over her 13 years in the industry and years of teaching Floral Design at Bangor Adult Education.

Extend Your Homegrown Harvest – Grow Your Own Veggies February to December!
Robin Follette left her office job behind and moved to northern Washington County in 1990. Her small back yard garden grew to a one acre market garden. She’s sold herbs, fruits and vegetables from a road side stand in front of her home, at farmers market and to local schools and restaurants. She has 2,500 square feet of garden under high tunnels and a 300 square foot greenhouse. Robin uses season extensions to stretch her growing season from mid February through mid December. She’ll share her knowledge of season extension through photos, a list of vegetables you can grow in the “off” season and a Q&A session at the end of the presentation. Robin and her husband Steve live on Seasons Eatings Farm in Talmadge, Maine.

Peony Society Tea
Come and enjoy a cup of tea with local Peony expert, Ken Liberty, and members of the Peony Society of Maine for an informal discussion about everything you ever wanted to know about Peonies! Ken will explain to the audience how to plant, divide, and why they sometimes don’t flower. Birding in Bangor and Beyond
There are over a hundred different species of birds within 30 minutes of the Bangor Garden Show. The Bangor Land Trust will team up with Representative Bob Duchesne, founder of the official guidebook, Maine Birding Trail http://www.mainebirdingtrail.com/index.htm , will reveal where all the birds are hiding in Bangor. You will learn where to go to see and hear your favorite birds, how to identify them, and how to get started "birding". The Bangor Land Trust http://www.bangorlandtrust.org/ will share their vast array of trail adventures in the Bangor area that are available for the public to enjoy birding, hiking, biking, and other great outdoor activities.

Bonsai Basics – Pruning Your Beloved Bonsai
Ernie Glabau will guide us through the several different tropical, temperate and evergreen species of Bonsai, showing the similarities and differences when pruning each type of bonsai tree. Examples of the trees will be pruned during this lecture/demo. There will be a question & answer session at the conclusion of “Pruning Your Bonsai.” Ernie is the Nursery Manager of Entwood Farm & Nursery, the largest and oldest commercial bonsai nursery in Maine.
